first mate - [taxi pt 5]

Happy to say that the Austin Taxi conversion can finally progress once again now that the motor adapter plate and coupler have been delivered.  Valuable lesson learned:  before mailing critical parts and lots of money to a company thousands of miles away, maybe check the Better Business Bureau website.  This company scored an 'F' and had several unresolved complaints.  It was all right there on the website, had I referred to it.

In episode five we do a brief recap of the build, mate the electric motor to the transmission, deal with some stripped threads, do a balance check on the new assembly, check shifter placement and plan motor mounting.  At the end there's a one-minute segment about an informal EV show I put together at our own, very centrally-located farmer's market.  I timed it to coincide with a monthly arts event so attendance was great.  On display were 4 conversions (Ford Ranger, Model T, SAAB, Mazda Miata) and 5 production electric vehicles (Mitsubishi iMiev, Nissan Leaf, Fisker Karma, Th!nk City, Tesla Roadster).
